Ontario Strawberries - Strawberry Recipe |
Fresh Ontario Strawberries
A great source of Vitamin C and Folate. These berries are available June 10th to July 15th.
- Available in a 6x1 flat (6- 1 quart box/flat)
Recipe-Strawberry Pie:
- Crust (Grandma Pauline’s)
- 1lb Lard (soften if possible)
- 1 cup boiling water
- 6-cup pastry flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
Cut lard up-pour hot water over lard- melt- add other ingredients- mix and chill in fridge overnight.
For strawberry pie filling
Roll out dough for one piecrust and bake for 10 minutes at 450 (until golden brown)
Using a quart of fresh Ontario strawberries, mash enough to make one cup. Add that one-cup to a stovetop pot along with 3 tbsp of cornstarch, 1 cup of sugar and ½ cup of water. Bring to a boil to thicken and cool
Cut up the remaining strawberries and layer the bottom of the cooled piecrust. Pour cooked strawberry mixture over top and refrigerate until set. Always keep this pie in the fridge! Top with whipped cream if desired.
